Petite Treats = Big Satisfaction

This is a compensated review from BlogHer and Pepperidge Farm.

I must say that I was thrilled to be able to do this review of Pepperidge Farm® Petite Pirouette® and Petite Twists®. Pepperidge Farm cookies have been my personal favorite for many years now.

My mom and dad loved Pepperidge Farm® Mint Milano® cookies. I mean, hide them from the kids, loved them. Can you relate?

I'll never forget when I found my mom's secret stash of Milano cookies when I was a teenager. They were in a low cupboard, in a sauce pan with its lid on. INGENIOUS! What kid is ever going to go and look in the sauce pans? Well, I guess eventually I did, but I wonder how long she had been using that hiding spot. Moms are so smart! But those were her sweet indulgence in the day when she just needed a break.

Well, now I am a mom of three hungry kids who always want my treats. So, yes, I have resorted to a secret stash too. But sometimes you need something yummy, just for you.

What I love about the Pepperidge Farm Petite Pirouette and Petite Twists is that they look and taste like a guilty pleasure, but in reality, you don't have to feel guilty at all. Let me introduce you to these special treats.

Petite Pirouette is a delicate, crispy rolled wafer with creamy, chocolaty filling on the inside. Try either the chocolate hazelnut or chocolate crème flavor - or both! Three Petite Pirouette rolled wafers add up to 90 carefree calories!

Petite Twists puffed pastries have layers of delicate, crisp pastry swirled with sweet cinnamon or raspberry. A delightful treat with 90 calories in two treats!

Now, these petite treats are perfection by themselves, but they take one of my favorite indulgences to the next level. Ice cream! I made these sundaes in the spirit of the petite treats. They are high impact visually and on the taste buds, but very forgiving when it comes to your waistline. P.S - Sharing is optional.

Petite Pirouette Sundae

Doesn't that look good?

All I did was layer:

1/4 cup light vanilla ice cream
1 TBSP sugar-free hot fudge
thinly sliced banana

Repeat layers and top with light whipped cream and a Chocolate Crème or Chocolate Hazelnut Petite Pirouette
.

When I took a bite of the Cinnamon Petite Twists, I tasted a flaky apple pie crust. Oh yum! So I decided to make an apple pie topping for reduced fat vanilla ice cream with this perfect, flaky, Cinnamon Petite Twist as the crust. Here is the recipe for the topping:

Apple Pie Ice Cream Topping

Ingredients

  • 4 large apples, peeled and sliced
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 4 tablespoons water, divided
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions

  • In a large skillet, combine the apples, brown sugar, 2 tablespoons water, cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves. Cook and stir over medium heat for 4-7 minutes or until fruit is tender.
  • In a small bowl, combine flour and remaining water until smooth; stir into skillet. Bring to a boil; cook and stir for 1 minute or until thickened. Remove from the heat; stir in vanilla. Serve over ice cream. Refrigerate leftovers. Yield: 3 cups.

Nutrition Facts: 1/2 cup (calculated with 1/2 cup reduced-fat ice cream) equals 197 calories, 2 g fat (1 g saturated fat), 6 mg cholesterol, 45 mg sodium, 45 g carbohydrate, 2 g fiber, 2 g protein. Diabetic Exchanges: 2 fruit, 1 starch.

Add some light whipped cream and a Cinnamon Petite Twist and you have a "deconstructed" guilt free apple pie for the holidays.

So guess what? Pepperidge Farm wants to give one of you a $150 Spa Gift Card! Talk about a guilt-free indulgence! Thank you Pepperidge Farm and good luck everyone!

Your recipe for a "deconstructed" guilt free apple pie sounds delicious! I may have to try that.

Sleeping in, curling up with a good book, and taking a walk would make me happy.

Rarely get a day to myself - hubby and I both work at home. But would love to have one: would eat when I wanted and whatever smelly food I wish (including garlic ;-0). Would play piano any time of day. Would read and just have some quiet time.

I don't remember last time I had a day to myself. I would love to sleep late and spend all day in my PJ's! These Pepperidge Farm treats look delicious. I can't to try them..yummy!

If I had to spend a day to my self, I would try to get caught up on my journal writing and scrapbooking - you know, do something for me. The cleaning can wait for another day.

a day to myself would be spent reading or sewing with something yummy to munch on during the day. But then again, that usually NEVER happens around here so..... hahaha but I would definitely enjoy every minute of it!

I'd lay around, sleep, read a book, eat anything I wanted, and most importantly, send the kids to Grandma's.

a day to my self - wow that is a tough question - I would read a good book from start to finish!

Those sure look tasty.
It sounds silly, but if I had a day to myself, I would actually get things done. Organize the house top to bottom, and if there isn't anyone around, that shouldn't take me all THAT long, then I would make myself one of these yummy treats you shared, and maybe break out the sewing machine! Thanks for the giveaway.

Did you say guilt free? I will definitely have to try that one. I am always looking for lighter desserts.
If I had a day to spend all to myself, I would probably have a relaxation day. That would include a bubble bath, scented candles and a great book to cuddle up in bed after the nice hot bath. I love reading because it is so relaxing.

Thank you for having this contest for all us busy mom's. I would love to sleep in and I'm not sick, read a book, then go get a manicure/pedi. :-)

Ahh, a day to myself...

I would love to read a good book, work on some knitting/crochet, watch a good Chick Flick, and take a nap. Sounds luxurious!

what fun pictures and ways to incorporate more cookies into your life! :)

I'd spend my day with the Husband - most of my days are 'days to myself' and I sure do miss him when he's travelling or working hard!

All to myself?? :) I'm not sure a day like that will ever exist, but if it did I would do a little shopping, have a great work-out, get a massage and treat myself to something yummy. Love your blog Mel, just happened to think about it tonight and decided to check and see if you had posted anything new.

OH wow...all of those looks DEEELISH!

Hmm...a day all to myself, huh? Well, for a lazy day, I would sleep in, have a nice big cup of coffee, lounge on the couch and watch Lifetime Network...haha. For a fun day, I would go get a mani/pedi, do a little shopping, have a quiet lunch on a patio somewhere with a glass of wine, sit in a pretty park somewhere and just be still....then, go home and make a fun dinner and watch a chick flick!

Wow, what is a day to yourself?? It's been so long that I can't even comprehend it.

I would love to spend a day vegging by the TV with a plate full of Mexican food. I would watch whatever girlie movie I wanted. Then I would relax in the tub with a good book and some Dove chocolates. Simple but pleasant!!

If I had a day to myself I would sleep, read a book, and do a craft. I would also want to eat some good food that I didn't cook or have to clean up after!

Thanks for sharing these recipes. I've already put down the Pepperidge Farm Hazelnut treats on my shopping list. My company tomorrow will love them - and me :)

Hmmm, it's hard to even imagine such a thing, I honestly don't think I've ever, EVER, done that.

If I could, I would sleep until 10, take a nice leisurely shower, sit around in my bathrobe for hours afterward, putting on my make-up. Head to the salon to get my hair cut, colored and highlighted, have a pedicure while my hair's processing. Pick up something scrumptious for lunch. Do a little shopping in a knitting store, or fabric store...that's it. I've got nothing. I can't even get through an imaginary whole day. Obviously I need to work on this. :-)

I would take myself shopping and out to lunch. A nice walk in the park would be lovely too.

more importantly what would I NOT do on a day all to myself? I would not make anyone else a meal, i would not drive anyone else to a playdate or class, i would NOT spend hours playing with toy cars or playdoh or swords, or stuffed animals.
instead I would BE VERY STILL.

First, those Cinnamon twists look delicious! Second, the whole day by myself...honestly I have no idea. I would like to think I would go and get a mani/pedi and see a movie by myself, which I love to do, unfortunately if I had a whole day by myself I would most likely clean like a mad woman and get caught up on laundry..ohh that's so horrible ;)
